Frontiers of Engineering

2016 US-EU

Frontiers of Engineering Symposium

October 17-19, 2016
Helsinki, Finland

The 2016 EU-US Frontiers of Engineering symposium was held October 17-19, at Aalto University near Helsinki, Finland.

About 60 outstanding engineers under the age of 45 met for an intensive 2-1/2 day symposium to discuss cutting-edge developments in four areas: The Road to Future Urban Mobility; Frontiers of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage; Integrated Photonics; and Smart Systems for Personalized and Connected Healthcare. The event was intended to facilitate international and cross-disciplinary research collaboration, promote the transfer of new techniques and approaches across disparate engineering fields, and encourage the creation of a transatlantic network of world-class engineers.

The symposium was hosted in partnership with the European Council of Academies of Applied Sciences, Technologies, and Engineering with organizational support provided by Technology Academy Finland.

The National Academy of Engineering would like to express its gratitude to Aalto University, the city of Espoo, Sitra, Nokia, The Grainger Foundation, and the National Science Foundation for its support of the 2016 EU-US FOE Symposium.
