HATZ is association of distinguished, experienced, and experienced scientists in technical and biotechnical fields. It was established in 1993 and deals with research and development in engineering and technological sciences, work on projects of national importance, projects for ministries, government agencies and industry, promotion and organization of scientific work, drawing up of scientific studies, expertise, reports and projects, opening discussions and expressing opinions about current issues in science and economy, organization of scientific conferences, publishing, cooperation with academies at home and abroad, as well as the transfer of knowledge.

The president’s mandate began on May 12, 2022, and lasts until May 12, 2026

Founding date: January 19, 1993

Number of Fellows and Associate Fellows:
HATZ has a total of 96 full members and 78 associate members, distributed across the departments. The distribution and number of members per department are determined by the Academy’s regulations.

Percentage of women among Fellows and Associate Fellows:
In the category of regular members, the Academy has 19 women (approximately 20%), while in the category of associate members, there are 18 women (approximately 25% of the total number of associate members).

Number of staff:
The Academy has two permanently employed staff members in the positions of business secretary and administrator of the Academy.

Annual budget:
cca 60.000,00 EUR

Financing sources:
– Government Support: 11.000,00 EUR (Calls of the Ministry of Science and Education)
– Supporting members (Industry / Scientific Institutions): 40.000,00 EUR
– Private funding: 7.000,00 EUR (Membership fees of individual members)

Bilateral relations with other member academies of Euro-CASE:
IAS, ÖAW, HAE

Academy is member of:
CAETS, European Platform of Transport Sciences – EPTS Foundation.

Mission

The mission of HATZ is to be a leading, creative, and innovative multidisciplinary community of scientists in the field of engineering. The Academy strives to be a community of efficient experts, contributing to the advancement of technical sciences and the transfer of essential technical knowledge for the progress of the Croatian economy and the well-being of all people.

The functional scheme of Academy includes:
– 14 departments (Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Department of Bioprocess Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, Department of Power Systems, Department of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Department of Graphical Engineering, Department of Information Systems, Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Communication Systems, Department of Transport, Department of Mining and Metallurgy, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Department of Systems and Cybernetics, Department of Textile Technology),
– 5 committees (Committee for Economic and Regional Cooperation, Committee for International Cooperation, Committee for Awards, Committee for Ethics, Committee of the Science Foundation),
– Center for Technical Development,
– Scientific Council,
– Entrepreneurial Council.

Principal objectives 2025 and key realisations 2024

Principal Objectives for 2025:
– Increase visibility and strengthen HATZ’s position as a leading multidisciplinary community of scientists in the field of technical and biotechnical sciences.
– Foster collaboration with national and international institutions, increase the number of scientific and professional projects, and strengthen the Academy’s publishing activities.

 

Key Realisations for 2024:
– Successfully implemented scientific and professional projects,
– organized conferences and workshops tackling current challenges in technical and biotechnical sciences,
– gained membership from renowned institutions in the industry.

Highlights 2023

  • Organization of conferences to commemorate the 30th anniversary of HATZ’s founding:
    – CAETS 2023 conference titled “e2-Mobility – Solutions and Opportunities”, on exciting and transformational e-mobility as the foundation of the future of transport. Conference is held in Zagreb (Croatia) on October 9th-11th 2023;
    – A scientific conference titled “Croatian Academy of Engineering – Cohesive Factor of Technical and Biotechnical Sciences and Croatian Economy”. Conference is held in Zagreb (Croatia) on June 30th 2023″.
  • Additional events in which HATZ had co-organization or patronage role: the symposium “Engineer’s Day 2023 – Urban planning and architecture – drivers of sustainable development in Croatia”, the conference “Printing & Design 2023”, the conference “Textile Science and Economy – Digital Fashion”, the hackathon “Brainhack Zagreb 2023”, the symposium “Food for Health”, as well as numerous other symposiums, conferences, round tables and workshops.
  • HATZ scientific publications:
    – Jubilee Annual 2022-2023 of the HATZ, published on the Occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Academy (1993-2023);
    – Journal “Engineering Power“, issues 17(3) 2022 and 17(4) 2022, comprising papers covering different fields of technical and biotechnical sciences.
