The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) is an independent academy with a mission “…to promote engineering and economic sciences and the advancement of business and industry for the benefit of society.” IVA has approximately 1,300 elected Swedish and international Fellows, along with 250 member companies on the Business Executives Council. We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement. Founded in 1919, it is the world’s oldest engineering academy, still with HM The King as its patron.

On 19-20 April, the Korea – Sweden Research-to-Business (R2B) Forum was organised in Seoul by IVA and COMPA (The Commercializations Promotion Agency for R&D Outcomes). The R2B Summit was a brand-new meeting place for utilisation and commercialisation of research between Sweden and South Korea.
On 12 September, IVA organised a seminar providing a global outlook on science diplomacy and international competition. The event focused on how Sweden can enhance competitiveness, growth, and foster sound international partnerships. Mr. Jerrard Sheehan, the OECD Director of Science, Technology, and Innovation, attended the seminar to discuss the OECD STI Outlook 2023.
On 26 October, IVA organised a seminar addressing the consequences of the use and misuse of disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how global tech diplomacy can serve as a guardrail. Mung Chiang, President of Purdue University and IVA Fellow, shared his views on preserving and advancing individual freedom in the age of AI and data.
