A report delivered by a team of scientists, working under the supervision of Prof. Jerzy Duszyński, president of the Academy, presents the current state of knowledge about SARS-CoV-2 virus, COVID-19 disease and its medical, psychological, economic and social impacts. In an accessible manner, this document provides forecasts of the COVID-19 epidemic for the upcoming winter season and recommendations for citizens and institutions. The publication includes information about the course of the disease and treatment, phases of pandemic development and its implications for human health. The study provides verified information on prevention and presents current works on coronavirus vaccines. Among other topics covered are preparations for a winter COVID-19 peak, including the opening of educational institutions, and the risk of co-infection.

The MacDonald warehouse was built in 1970 on the Boulevard Macdonald in the 19th district of Paris, France. To ensure that the warehouse is re-used, not demolished, the conversion must use the existing structure to accommodate the programme, but without adding extra constraints by comparison with a new structure.

The paper presents the Database-Assisted Design (DAD) framework for the time-domain approach. It then discusses the application of that framework to the analysis and design of tall buildings. The paper notes advantages of DAD in terms of transparency, accuracy, and convenience due to the effective automation of the design process.

Due to the increased life expectancy and the related increase of chronic diseases (as opposed to acute disorders when patients are younger), an alternative approach to hospital care has become necessary: a third of the population of France and the US now suffers from chronic diseases.  Ambulatory medicine, which is a health care system that keeps the patient at home while offering him the same outstanding quality care that he would receive at the hospital, is such an economically viable approach, responding at the same time to the wishes of patients, to economic requirements and scientific, technological and medical developments. This report describes recent advances of ambulatory medical care, identifies obstacles to overcome and incentives to encourage and makes recommendations for future development with the aim of optimizing the management of healthcare costs, with special emphasis on the role of information technology to master the complex system of information flows between the many stakeholders.  It does also identify the potential hurdles and necessary incentives and looks at issues of compliance with existing law and legal adaptation to the new requirements.  It also evokes the necessary training of the various actors in order for the system to function adequately. The guide aims at a detailed mapping of  infrastructural actors of the research and innovation system in Lombardy region. Enterprises are in the center of the innovation process: they have the responsibility and the interest in converting the results of R&D activities in goods and services for the market, and of creating value through the production and commercialization of new products. But this is not enough, other institutions are indispensable in an advanced and effective innovation system. First of all universities and public research organizations which supply the necessary higher education to researchers, but also other structures and services are needed: normative, certification, patent offices,  ICT infrastructures, statistics, test and measurements centers, as well as technology transfer structures, incubators, science parks. And on other levels: financial institutions, as seed and venture capital organizations, with specialization in the creation of and support to high tech start up and spin off companies.
